Ingecon® CleanPower is Ingeteam’s
new brand. The Ingecon® CleanPower is intimately related to the xDFM
topology.
xDFM is a new electric topology comprising an exciter machine mechanically coupled
to a doubly fed induction generator. A power converter, isolated from the grid,
is electrical conected in between both machines.
Indeed, the xDFM can be shown as an evolution of the classic DFM topology, wherein
two electric machines: a synchronous permanent magnet machine and a doubly fed
asynchronous machine are used together in such a way that the power is only fed
to the grid through the stator of the doubly fed induction generator and the
power converter manages the power between both electric machines.
Within Ingecon® CleanPower
output is accurately controlled. In addition, it remains constant above
rated speed avoiding power fluctuations dependent on wind speed variations.
Furthermore, power generation is less sensitive to grid disturbances, such
as grid faults, and provides a better performance in stand-alone and weak
grids.
Thus, Ingecon® CleanPower is especially attractive for the emerging wind park demands by allowing wind farms to grow in size and installed wind capacity, fulfilling the requirements of different standards and improving power output quality.
In addition, Ingecon® CleanPower is suitable for HVDC grids. Indeed, it provides the possibility of generating power in medium voltage with a low voltage power converter without power transformer need and simplifying most of the electrical components.
The system can work below
the synchronous speed (i.e. subsynchronous) and above the synchronous speed
(i.e. supersynchronous). During the subsynchronous operation, power flows
from the exciter machine to the rotor of the doubly fed induction generator,
so the exciter machine acts as a generator. On the other hand, during the
supersynchronous operation, the power flows from the rotor of the doubly
fed induction generator to the exciter machine. Therefore the exciter machine
acts as a motor. The power balance during the whole range speed is such that
power generated/consumed in the exciter machine is consumed/generated in
the rotor of the doubly fed induction machine, except for the losses in the
different elements.
